CollectorVision Games, publishers and developers of more than 120 games for several different classic consoles, and the ones behind Sydney Hunter and the Curse of the Mayan for the Nintendo Switch and PC have announced the next game they are developing. They are currently working on a new game for ColecoVision called Dracula. CollectorVision Games also released the first look at the game.
The ColecoVision is a second-generation video game console created by Coleco and released back in August 1982. ColecoVision offered a closer experience to more powerful arcade video games than the Atari 2600 and Intellivision at the time. Approximately 136 games were published between 1982 and 1984 including ports such as Sega’s Zaxxon and the first home version of Nintendo’s Donkey Kong.
The Coleco was discontinued in 1985 when Coleco withdrew from the video game market.
CollectorVision Games says that 20 rooms have already been made, with 50 different rooms planned in total. According to the devs, “Dracula is going to be the most ambitious Coleco game ever made, without using ANY special hardware.”
As to how they are getting Dracula to look the way it is, CollectorVision said “We’re using bank switching which is something that would happen if Coleco had not abandoned the video game business. The main problem back in the early 80s was the price of from chips.”
Needless to say, the way Dracula looks compared to other ColecoVision games is a drastic shift. One fan noted differences on Twitter.
“We’re pushing the ColecoVision’s limitations to the top with this one,” CollectorVision Games said.
