Code Vein 2 has excited fans of the original game since its announcement. Following its showcase at the Summer Games Fest, players learned even more about the game that they could look forward to before its release early next year. Besides the many natural upgrades that come with any later installment in a franchise, Code Vein 2 surprised many by featuring a new cast and story set in the same world. Bandai Namco has been feeding the curiosity of fans since the announcement with various character showcases. The latest of these features Josée Anjou, a character whose story revolves around death and love.
The trailer introduces the game’s new heroine with a picture and caption, detailing the year that she was born as a Revenant. It immediately follows this with another caption. This time, it reveals to the viewer that she sacrificed her life at the Upheaval over 200 years later. The game also offers her title, The Lonely Hero Burdened by Guilt, crafting a dark image of the character before she is ever seen. Her tragedy is spelled out more directly as gameplay footage of her begins, with her mourning her failure to protect the people of the city from being turned into monsters and to stop the terrible Resurgence outbreak. She concludes the trailer by reaffirming her resolve to make things right along with her pledge of devotion to her partner.
Throughout the trailer, Josée can be seen powering strong blows with massive blades to support the player during combat. Later, her unique abilities are shown off as her arms transform into wolf-like appendages and wings materialize along her back. Her strengths as a partner character, as they are called on the game’s official website, seem to emphasize unstoppable attacks with her “Hound” ability granting her resistance to disruption and her “Precision” Support Skill making it easier to break enemies. She is also capable of calling on pillars of fire for swarms of enemies with her “Unquenchable Flames” ability.
Moving on from the cast of the original game may be difficult for some players, but the trailers for Code Vein 2‘s partners have helped alleviate some of the fears many have. From interesting gameplay to deep story elements, Josée Anjou looks to provide exactly what gamers could want from a companion. The game is set to release on January 30th, 2026.
