In the press release Sam Schoonover, Innovation Lead for Coachella, shared his thoughts on the impact of the special event.
“The future of in-game music and art experiences should not mimic the real world, but reimagine the magic and make it more accessible via a new medium,” said Schoonover. “We believe that the best way to do that is to enable and empower artists to show us the way. Just like the festival, IRL is a stage for musicians, Coachella Island is now a canvas for gaming creators. Fortnite provides the tools needed to invite creators and fans to participate in this creative process.”
Coachella Island was built by creators from Alliance Studios based on the well known landscape surrounding the world famous festival. The event island features an Art Park where players can view three new fan-recreated art installations the festival’s famous artwork, and a gallery of fan-submitted Fortography. The virtual replicas of the Spectra, the Coachella Ferris Wheel and balloon chains will stand alongside two new installations new to this year’s festival from Maggie West and Güvenç Özel.
Additionally, players can challenge themselves with various team vs. team minigames, jam out to a catalogue of songs by Coachella 2023 performer Porter Robinson, and checkout Coachella themed Outfits and in-game items at the Merch Tent and Fortnite Item Shop.
Players can purchase two new music-reactive outfits: Sunset Alto and Desert Dawn Lyric, both which are inspired by the desert skies and palm trees surrounding the festival. Players will also be able to purchase the Wilder and Poet and original Alto and Lyric outfits from Coachella’s first Fortnite event.
Players can use the new Ask Me and Slide Stride Emotes featuring music by Bad Bunny and Burna Boy, all now available to buy in the Item Stop. Those that want to check out the festivities should log in with their Epic Games account, open up or download Fortnite and check out the Fortnite x Coachella event page.
The Fortnite x Coachella event will last from April 13, 2023, to April 23, 2023.
