If your dream action-RPG includes juggling enemies into geysers, lassoing goblins into tornadoes, and building a flying turtle fortress with your friends—well, Noodle Cat Games might’ve just made that dream real. Cloudheim, a physics-driven, Norse-inspired co-op RPG sandbox, is launching its Open Beta from July 18–21 ahead of a full release later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, according to a press release.
Built on the chaos of fully simulated physics, Cloudheim trades tight precision for glorious unpredictability. Four players can drop into a fully destructible playground, where every fire pit, stone pillar, and flaming barrel becomes a potential weapon. Teamwork isn’t just encouraged—it’s baked directly into the moment-to-moment systems. Combat flows with improv flair, where timing your aerial combo or pulling off the perfect environmental finisher means more than memorizing a skill tree.
Forget endless menus. Cloudheim scraps the traditional crafting model in favor of real-time experimentation. Tossing materials directly into forges mid-battle creates a dizzying array of shared gear, special effects, and surprise upgrades—visible and reactive in the world, not tucked behind an interface. It’s co-op chaos without pause, where collaboration fuels creativity, and the results range from clever to catastrophic.
According to Noodle Cat Games CEO and founder David Hunt, that’s the point. “We built Cloudheim as a sprawling combat playground—something equal parts cozy and completely unhinged. Every session brings surprise combos we didn’t even design. Players kick monsters off cliffs, launch each other into boss fights, or discover gear synergies we never scripted. It’s pure emergent fun.”
The Open Beta will let players explore a portion of Cloudheim’s vibrant archipelago, where floating islands and ancient dungeons await. In between expeditions, teams return to their evolving base of operations—the Odin Shell, a flying turtle outfitted with crafting tables, shops, and cozy décor. The base isn’t just cosmetic. Expanding it unlocks new gameplay features, and managing a shop lets players flip their loot for valuable upgrades.
Progression is character-specific, but loot and crafted items are communal. The game balances the grind by making discovery its own reward. One moment you’re building a frost-enhanced flail from scrap, the next you’re flinging it into a storm vortex created by your mage friend. The more chaos you generate together, the more fun it becomes.
Artistically, Cloudheim leans into its roots. Developed by a team where artists outnumber coders, the game is saturated with charm—whimsical enemies, cozy lighting, expressive animations, and fantastical biomes. Norse mythology fuels the aesthetic without turning grimdark, and the result is a painterly world as weird as it is warm.
Cloudheim launches its free Open Beta on July 18. Signups are now live via the official website. Bring your friends, bring your weirdest crafting ideas, and prepare to kick some fluffy monsters off a cliff.
