The original EverQuest may have released back in 1999, but it’s still receiving new content. The venerable MMORPG, which is still running to this day, has recently announced its 25th expansion pack, The Burning Lands, which will be released this December.
A post on the game’s official website, written by EverQuest 1 and 2 producer Lauren “Mooncast” McLemore, announced the new expansion pack and talks a bit about what to expect:
We’ve traveled far and wide across Kunark, but for now we’ll be leaving Kunark behind as we go a bit more… elemental. It’s been a little while, but it’s finally time to head back to the Planes! The expansion name might give you some clues, but let’s just say that air and fire will play a big role in your upcoming adventures. I don’t want to give away too much yet, but only the most daring will be able to successfully navigate the upcoming conflict!
Long-time players or those knowledgeable about old MMORPGS might recognize the reference to the Planes of Power, which was first introduced in the 2002 expansion pack of the same name.
The details on what to expect are being kept under wraps so far, but Lauren has teased “…new monsters, zones, items, raids, and more.” The blog post announcing the expansion pack also showed off one of the new enemies in The Burning Lands: a giant snail with a shell made out of what looks like molten rock.
More details about the new expansion pack will be leaked on the game’s official website. The game has shifted to a free-to-play model in the last few years, so you can play for free if you feel like taking a walk down memory lane or seeing what old-school MMORPGs were like.
EverQuest: The Burning Lands is set to launch sometime this December.
