Sandfall Interactive’s debut title, Expedition 33, released on April 24 and has received widespread critical acclaim with a Metacritic score of 93  on Xbox Series X|S, 92 on PS5, and 90 on PC at the moment. Shortly after it was released, Sandfall Interactive announced that the game had reached 500,000 copies sold. After three days, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has reached another milestone, selling one million copies.

Sandfall Interactive noted that the one million copies sold includes physical copies shipped to stores rather than copies sold to consumers. The game was also released and is available on Game Pass on both console and PC. The developers have yet to those numbers pubicly.

All in all, the game has proven to be a massive sucess, especially for a small team like Sandfall Interactive. There were 33 developers who worked on the game.

Many in the industry were worried that the game would be overshadowed by the surprise release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which came out two days before Expedition 33’s release. There was concern that both games releasing so close to each other could potentially cannibalize each other’s sales. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s sales figures, Bethesda Game Studios announced that four million people have played the game since its release. It seems that both publishers are happy with each game’s respective launches.

The official synopsis for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reads: “As a member of the Expeditioners, who are embarking on an impossible quest to end the Paintress’ cycle of death, you’ll journey through a vast and beautiful fantasy world where you’ll battle deadly adversaries, befriend fabled creatures, and discover traces of those who came before.”
