Sid Meier’s Civilization VII has been having a very steady rollout these few months since its announcement over the summer. The most recent addition of these is the Tecumseh and Shawnee First Look trailer which premiered earlier today. The trailer is meant to give players a quick overview of the new Civ. In this case the leader and their historical Civ are Tecumseh and the Shawnee, both first time additions to the Civ series. Players will not have to play Tecumseh with the Shawnee due to Civ VII’s freedom to mix and match leaders.
Tecumseh is a leader that favors diplomatic and militaristic traits. His unique preference is for players that leave independent powers independent, earning his goodwill. Tecumseh also wishes to engage with independent powers, gaining settlement yield and military power equivalent to the number of independent powers he is the Suzerain of. It’s an incredibly strong ability, and one that works extremely well with both Tecumseh’s diplomatic and militaristic ideas. It is also important to note that Tecumseh’s map start bias is for grasslands or plains, in case that influences any players’ strategies.
The Shawnee nation also comes with unique attributes. An Exploration Age Civilization, the Shawnee will be part of the game’s second age, meaning that players from the Age of Antiquity will be changing Civs into the Shawnee, and playing into the Modern Age means players will have to change from the Shawnee to another Civ. The Shawnee’s natural bonus comes to cities built around navigable rivers, granting them more food yield, but at the cost of non river cities having ten percent less food yield.
Tecumseh and the Shawnee are not available in the base game, but are available if players pre-order the standard version of the game. For anyone else, the Civ will probably be a dlc added to the game post launch.
Civilization VII launches February 11, 2025 but can be wishlisted now.
