The much awaited free DLC for Celeste will finallyrelease next week. The newest chapter in the game is titled Chapter 9: Farewell and will launch on September 9th according to Gamespot. The announcement came in the form of blog post on the site of their new company Extremely OK Games. The new company also released an announcement on Twitter.
The new story takes place after the main events of the original game. Chapter 9: Farewell also contains 100 new levels, raising the total number of levels up t0 800. The new DLC will also introduce a few new mechanics to the game as well as several new items. According to Gamespot, there are unfortunately no B-sides or C-sides, meaning no new secret levels. The DLC will also have more than 40 minutes of new music from composer Lena Raine. When it comes to the difficulty of the levels, something Celeste is known for, Matt Thorson stated that the Matt Makes Games team would release a number of “very hard” levels for Farewell.
In the blog post, Matt Thorson announced that “We’ve created a new company for our games going forward, called Extremely OK Games!” This means that the game company Matt Makes Games Inc. has been renamed. The reason for this change as stated by Matt himself was because, “On Towerfall, my collaborators took a larger role than I anticipated, and on Celeste, it was obvious that calling ourselves Matt Makes Games had become silly.” The new company is stationed in Vancouver and is already already working on another title code named EXOK1. Celeste Chapter 9: Farewell will be available on September 9th, for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
