Celebrate The 20th Anniversary of Pokémon With A New 3DS

Good lord, has it been twenty years already? Man, how time flies when you’re trying to catch’em all. Yes everyone, we’ve all been enamored with those adorably deadly pocket monsters for over twenty years now. Pokémon has been around for as long as I have been alive, I grew up with the series and haven’t missed an entry. So when Nintendo announced that they would finally be bringing the first generation games (Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow) to the Nintendo eShop, I was one of the many people who shouted “hell yeah!” at their computers in excitement. Now Nintendo have given us another reason to shout at our screens.

As mentioned in Gameinformer, the re-release of the classic games are set for the twentieth anniversary of the franchise. To commemorate the occasion Nintendo will be selling a version of the New 3DS with custom faceplates based around the founding entries Red and Blue. The unit will come with both Pokémon Red and Blue pre-installed and a code for a home theme. Both the games and the handheld bundle will be released on February 27th.

Along with the New 3DS bundle, The Pokémon Company, essentially the PR team for the little digital creatures, will also be holding a special event at GameStop later this year. Starting February 1st,people can bring in their copies of Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and get a free Mew, Darkrai, Arceus, and Genesect to add to their in-game team. They will also be making fifteen of their movies available through various distribution platforms.

If that wasn’t enough on February 27th Toys ‘R’ Us will be holding a Pokémon Day where you can get a foil version of the Pikachu and Magikarp cards from the new Generations expansion. You will also get a poster featuring the original 151 Pokémon and an activity book.
