A new game that does not require a VR headset or controller has landed on Xbox. Vilegacy’s Catch Flex is a “camera-tracked rhythm game” where players must “slash blocks, catch rings, kick balls, stomp, slide and dodge.” The game features two game modes: Versus and No-fail, along with ten different original tracks, ranging from 87 beats per minute (BPM) to 150 BPM, each spanning across three main genres: house, electro, and techno. If these tracks do not interest a player, they are able to import a song of their choosing into the game’s editor, map out the dance moves, and “load the level into the game.”
Each dance move is “charted for what a real body can do- everything [is] within reach, [with absolutely] no jumping.” Six custom moves are included in the gameplay of Catch Flex: Slash, Catch, Kick, Stop, Slide, and Dodge. The moves are somewhat self explanatory, as Slashing directs players to “cut blocks in the arrow’s direction,” Catching to ” snag rings with a hand or foot,” Kicking to “boot the balls, or knock them back with a hand,” Stomping to “boot the balls, or knock them back with a hand,” Sliding to “ride the trail to the end,” and Dodging to “duck, lean, or step over obstacles.”
While all these moves require players to have their “full body in frame [and] clothes that don’t blend into the background,” if a prospective player does not own a forward facing camera, or does not have one readily available, they have the option to download a free controller app to their phone. Additionally, the “Catch Flex Editor runs in browser,” requiring zero extensions or outside purchases. For players concerned about privacy, Vilegacy assures players that “tracking runs locally, on [their] own hardware, and camera images are never saved or uploaded. When [their] phones are the camera, only movement data crosses [their] own local network — the video never leaves the phone.” Catch Flex was officially released on September 13, 2026 for Xbox PC systems, though it has been available on Steam since August 29, and PlayStation 5 since September 1.
