Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Dev Reveals New Multiplayer Game, Raiders of the Broken Planet

Mercury Steam, the spanish developer behind the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series, have revealed their next game, a multiplayer game called Raiders of the Broken Planet.  The game has been teased by Mercury Steam since March, with the company dropping clues as to what the game would be.  Dave Cox, ex-Konami producer, said the game would be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but not on Wii U.

Today Mercury Steam released the first official image of Raider of the Broken Planet on their facebook page.  The image (shown above) shared shows a grizzled man with a cigar about to punch some generic looking enemy in a gas mask.  There is another man blurred out in the background as well as some sort of aerial vehicle.  These could possibly hint at different character classes and vehicles to use in the game.  The setting of the picture looks like Battlefront on the Tatooine map.

The facebook post also had a link to the game’s website.  The website only has one little animation on a loop, but it hints at some potential characters and maybe even boss battles.  All we know so far about Raiders of the Broken Planet is that it is a “multiplayer online asymmetric adventure,”  so it’s unsure whether the game will just be like an arena shooter or if it will have a bigger campaign.  Players can sign up for the game’s beta on the website, which hopefully means we can get some more info on the game soon.

This is an interesting step for Mercury Steam to take after their success with Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. Of course they couldn’t continue the Castlevania series after Konami abandoned triple-A games, so it’s good to see that they are working on a new IP.  It will be fun to see how Mercury Steam handles a multiplayer-focused game considering that Castlevania:Lords of Shadow was a single player combat-focused adventure game.  We’ll keep you updated on Raiders of the Broken Planet’s as new information comes out.
