Castlevania fans, rejoice (so long as you have an Iphone)! Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is the newest entry in the Castlevania franchise since way back in 2014 when Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 dropped, but this latest installment will be on Apple Arcade only.
This is Konami’s second attempt at releasing Grimoire of Souls after their soft-launch in Canada, as Toucharcade reports. This version of the game has been shut down as of last year However, the former version was released for free with micro-transactions, whereas this sparkly-new version will have no microtransactions but won’t be free-to-play.
The game’s 2.5d graphics have turned away some long-time fans, but make no mistake: This is absolutely a Castlevania game, and it’s got some legacy names supporting it. Ayami Kojima, character designer for Symphony of the Night, will be filling the same role in Grimoire of Souls alongside Michiru Yamane, the original composer for Symphony of the Night. If you haven’t noticed, this new entry looks to be taking a lot of inspiration from the masterpiece that is Symphony of the Night, and the connections don’t stop there.
Grimoire of Souls will be a side-scrolling action game in the same vein as the DS games with many fan favorite characters from across the series. The game will also have a focus on four-player co-op and competition, as Nintendo Life reports. Players will also be able to resurrect the dead to help them out, all while jamming out to some brand-new Castlevania tracks alongside old classics. The story of the game takes place in a world where Dracula has been destroyed, yet evil forces conspire to bring him back from the dead. The player-character receives a strange letter in the mail which sets off this action-packed adventure, reading as follows:
The Grimoire has run wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected.
It’s certainly mysterious. It’ll be up to you to discover who wrote the letter, what it means and how you can stop Dracula’s return to power when Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls releases soon on Apple Arcade.
