Legendary 3D graphics programmer John Carmack was announced today as the new Chief Technology Officer at OcculusVR. Carmack is a co-founder of Id Software, makers of Wolfenstein 3d, Doom, and Quake. In the realm of 3d graphics programming he is considered a visionary genius.

Carmack will stay on-board at Id Software. OcculusVR will be opening up another studio in Dallas, where Carmack will lead further technology development of the Rift unit.
