Earlier today, the trailer for the Call of Duty: WWII’s zombie mode was leaked. Originally, the trailer was to be shown at San Diego Comic Con but appeared online this morning. The game’s publisher, Activision, has since taken down most of the leaked videos from YouTube but not before fans expressed their excitement over what the Army of the Dead mode had to offer.
Call of Duty: WWII creator, Sledgehammer Games, has said via their official Twitter account that “leaks aren’t ideal” but was glad that the trailer has proved popular with fans of the series. They also announced that David Tennant of Dr. Who fame would be voicing a character in Army of the Dead named Drostan Hynd.
The trailer showcases scenes from a dark and gory laboratory where a mad German scientist speaks of how he has “forged the symbol of the glorious Fourth Reich” while close-ups of blood-covered Nazi uniforms flash. Then the door of the laboratory opens and we get our first glimpses of the zombies.
Quick moving and grotesque, the zombies run across the screen while World War II soldiers move carefully down an abandoned street. The mad scientist warns that “when you hear it- the drums of war” that it is the sound of, “the march of progress.”
The booming sound of a gunshot marks the beginning of the chaos as different scenes blaze across the screen. A zombie officer, a soldier firing frantically into a horde of mutilated horrors, and the fire and blood of war are just a few of the awesome visuals the trailer had to offer but it is the narrator’s final line that chills.
“I am building more than just soldiers. I have created the devil himself.”
This “devil” appears to be a metal-enhanced, mace-toting, monstrosity.
Since the trailer was unfinished, fans are looking forward to seeing more of the Army of the Dead gamemode at San Diego Comic Con this July 20th.
