Activision has recently announced that the Covert Exfil mechanic will not launch in the standard battle royale mode of Call of Duty: Warzone following player backlash.
The feature, which was previously detailed as part of the Season 1 Reloaded update on the Call of Duty blog, would give players a new victory condition of escaping the match in a helicopter, allowing them to survive the round without being the last person standing. This was paired with a new Weapons Case mechanic, which marks the player holding it but provides exclusive rewards if a player manages to win with it.
Now, Raven Software has taken to Twitter to announce that neither of these features will be added to the standard battle royale mode, but will instead receive their own dedicated mode. This move is a result of backlash to the mechanics from players, who did not like the idea of making it out of the match without having earned it.

“We believe that Covert Exfil and the gameplay loop it provides, paired with the Weapons Case, will make for an exciting addition to Warzone,” they stated. “That said, we’ll instead launch both of these features in an upcoming dedicated mode. We’re looking forward to the new challenges that these features will provide and to your continued feedback once the mode is available.”
The Season 1 Reloaded update also adds a new map for Modern Warfare III, new weapons, and three new modes: Team Gunfight, Headquarters, and Infected. It also features further collaboration with Amazon’s The Boys in The Boys: Supe Siege Event Challenge.
