Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to launch its third season next week. Activision announced the date with teaser image on the official Call of Duty Twitter account, saying that season 3 will launch on April 8, 2020. At the same time, Modern Warfare multiplayer and Warzone modes are offering double XP to get fans and players excited for the upcoming release. Activision also released Modern Warfare 2 Remastered on PS4, with PC and Xbox One versions to come in late April. These are seen as standalone games though, and not part of the Modern Warfare package, and do not include multiplayer modes, so as to not split the player base in Modern Warfare.
The teaser picture shows three fan-favorite figures enveloped in red smoke, including Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign. Ghost, who appears in the background, is also apparently apart of the game as a special battle pass unlockable in Season 2 as well, and his reveal trailer that helped lay the groundwork for the Warzone mode. Behind them appear to be teasers for new and returning maps – the one in the lower right looks a lot like Call of Duty 4′s Backlot map. Dataminers previously found evidence pointing to Backlot and Village from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 also coming in this update.
A new season of Call of Duty also means a new battle pass along with new rewards will be avalible for players to earn. Halfway through Season 2, Infinity Ward launched the battle royale mode Warzone, which is free for all players (even if they do not own Modern Warfare) and uses the same battle pass progression. This trend will likely continue for Season 3, though this time the free Warzone players will have the entire season to work their way through with the battle pass.
