Call of Duty League Playoff has been one of the most anticipated competitions in video game history and every year they never disappoint with their live action tournament against fellow COD fanatics. But this year due to the coronavirus, the Call of Duty League playoffs 2020 will be officially moving the event online. The league confirmed on Sunday morning that with the coronavirus being a high risk for the players, staff, and their families by having the players together for the 2020 season’s playoffs. Also with this new decision, the League confirmed some new technologies improvements and measures that will be held to ensure the competition’s competitive integrity.
For this new shift that is happening for the Call of Duty League playoffs, the League will be providing all of the competitors a universal camera setup that will be active throughout all the matches. With the cameras it will provide visibility for league officials to be able to view and check each competitor’s console, controller, and monitor as needed. As soon as the match releases an official ready check status, the players will need to be seated and on camera. The cameras will need to be in place prior to start of the New York Subliners Home Series on July 10th.
On the official Call of Duty League website, they discussed about the Veto Power. “Currently, for each CLD Home Series, team are provided a list of three servers (from a pool of nine) to test and determine which servers they prefer to veto. During the Playoffs and Championship Weekend, we will increase the veto server options to five for each match. By adding more options, we have increased the probability of getting the nest possible server for both teams. Additionally, with more servers in play for each match, there will also be more fallback options if there’s an unexpected issue.”
With all the changes coming to the playoffs, the COD League will bulk up their production, technical, and officiating staffing teams. They want to be ready to handle any issues that would potentially come up in the online competition environment.
The Call of Duty League will be offering more updates regarding any new shift to the online competition will be shared in the coming weeks. The Call of Duty League Playoffs will start in August.
