Call of Duty Infinite Warfare Going Full 80s With New Zombie Horde Mode

Zombie hordes are no stranger when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise. Just like the many games before it, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will have its own zombie horde mode called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Zombies in Spaceland. Players who grew up in the 80s and millennials obsessed with the 80s culture are really going to enjoy its 80s look.

The zombie horde modes on the recent Black Ops games had very over-the-top sci-fi elements, but things look really wacky based on the release trailer for Zombies in Spaceland.

The trailer shows everything 80s. Neon lights, clowns, discos and women wearing legwarmers are all over the trailer. While the women wearing legwarmers may just be there for the theatrical trailer, it isn’t completely unrealistic to see neon lights, discos and zombie clowns in what appears to be a theme park, most likely with the name Spaceland.

The switch makes sense, as executive director Jason Blundell of Treyarch, the developer of Black Ops had originally said the story of the zombie modes of the Black Ops series came to a close with the final Black Ops game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, according to his interview with Gamespot.

In a separate interview with Gamespot, Blundell said the the inspiration behind the zombie horde mode was the fans. Despite the zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 called Nacht der Untoten having no story to it, it was the fans that created the narrative.

I always joke with our lead writer Craig Houston that he didn’t have to do any work because it was all written down at the beginning. They just went into it. It was, ‘Who’s that guy? What’s that texture over there? Oh, look, I see the devil in the wall.’ Crazy stuff that we hadn’t even put in. We go, ‘Oh, let’s do something with that.’ Then I think over time what we’ve done is just put more and more resources and attention behind it.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is to be released November 4 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Players who purchase the special edition of the the game will also get a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
