Modern Warfare 3 released last year to much critical displeasure, mainly being directed towards the campaign and its lack of content. Now we know that the game was forced to be made in under a year and a half but it still does not excuse a company like Activison and a series like Call Of Duty to make a half baked game. The campaigns main criticisms came from the idea that the developers decided to have half of the campaign be open world war zone esque missions. These are universally despised and it looks like Call of Duty may be leaning towards that angle again for this years COD. Its rumored that this years release will be a sequel to Black Ops Cold War, with it being titled Black Ops Gulf War. More information coming from Insider Gaming reveals that the campaign will be embracing more open world missions, with this being a decision that will be a mainstay for future games to come.
Leaving the bad taste that Modern Warfare 3 left behind, an campaign that involves open world aspects in a Call Of Duty game does sound very intriguing. Add to that the fact that Activision’s best COD studio Treyarch is developing the game, alongside them having the longest time for development between games being 4 years, there is actually a lot to hope for. Raven Software will be assisting Treyarch again in development for the campaign, notably also being responsible for making Black Ops Cold War’s campaign, one of the best in recent years. There is a rumored fast travel system coming to the game as well, the first ever in the series. Black Ops Cold War fans will also rejoice as fan favorite character Russel Adler is slated to return in a major way.
The title is slated to release sometime in October of this year, with announcements and trailers coming in the next couple of months. Its nice to see a series like Call Of Duty try an reinvent itself from time to time, but reactions to this news are mixed. Many players are already voicing their concerns pointing to the aforementioned Modern Warfare 3 being a complete failure in the campaign department.
