Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 To Get Modding And Mapping Tools

Modding and mapping support for the Call Of Duty franchise has been a long requested feature and in an announcement today it seems that the long lived dream is finally coming true.

Treyarch posted their broad outline of the plan to bring modding and mapping support for PC players on their website earlier. Though the game is set to release later this week on November 6th, the modding and mapping content is set for a 2016 release. The tools will allow players to create their own maps and game modes. Support for players to run their own dedicated modding servers will be provided as well as including a Unranked Server Browser to easily find different modded content.

A closed alpha for the new tools is planned to happen in March 2016 and will be the first opportunity for players to get their hands on the tools. Treyarch plans to move into an open beta sometime after.

Though modding and mapping support seems all but certain, Treyarch included a warning alongside the announcement.

Please remember that this is software development, so things don’t always work out exactly as planned.  Sometimes features slip or drop off altogether, sometimes they get replaced with other, more awesome features as we hit into limitations of our original plans.

The plans are still in very preliminary stages and fans looking forward to more updates on the developer’s progress are encouraged to stay tuned to the Treyarch blog.
