Many games have recently been taking a stand against players who are looking to cheat and get ahead. Call of Duty in particular has been seeing a lot of players cheating to get ahead in their games. Back in November 2021, Activision announced that they had banned over half a million players for cheating. These bans continued as the official Call of Duty Twitter account announced that there have been over 90,000 players banned in the past week.
Although Activision did not provide much information, these bans came in waves and likely took place in the Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard games that utilize Activision’s newest anti-cheating software.
These bans come as Call of Duty begins to expand the Ricochet Anti-Cheat software. This software was released back in 2021 for Call of Duty: Warzone. The software was developed by Activision and has been very controversial among players due to some of the privacy issues that come along. Due to the kernel-level drivers, many players have been worried about the safety of their information when they are playing the game.
Despite these concerns, Activision has made it clear that the Ricochet software should not cause any issues. The company says that the software will only run while the games are open. Additionally, the software will only be looking for information, specifically cheating, that relates to the game being played. While there are still concerns about some of the privacy issues involved, the effect that the software has on cheating cannot be denied as many players have been caught since it was released.
While cheating is still a prevalent issue within many of the Call of Duty games, there will likely be a drastic decrease as the Ricochet software becomes more effective over time.
