Call of Cthulhu: Lovecraft Lives On Through Cyanide Studio

Call of Cthulhu is a video game rendition of the popular horror novel The Call of Cthulhu, written by H.P. Lovecraft. The video game centers around Edward Pierce, a former war veteran and private investigator.

Edward is recruited to investigate the inexplicable death of a woman named Sarah Hawkins, an artist who moved with her husband to Darkwater Island. Edward goes to the island in hopes learn more about her cause of death. The location is far from inviting and appears abandoned. Through Edward’s perspective, players are forced to endure his horrors during his investigation along with his petrifying perception of reality, which a doctor diagnoses as an “affliction”.

Focus Home Interactive, the publisher for Call of Cthulhu, expand on what the game will feature throughout its play through. “Developed with Unreal Engine 4” many gamers, who are well aware of this powerful engine, will get to experience the game’s detail as vividly as possible. With the stunning support of Unreal Engine, the game will surely make you “Doubt your own senses and experience true madness…” A well-rated game for its “true madness” would be Alice: Madness Returns, a real example of how players took to the disturbing story line of a character with extreme psychosis; which gives Call of Cthulhu a lot of promise for its main character.  While playing as Edward, gamers will interact with “Full of deep dialogue with meaningful choices that impact the narrative and relationships with your companions”. The option to decide for a character is not exactly a unique feature, as other games, such as Life Is Strange and Until Dawn, have based their plot line on what the player decides. But using this mechanic has shown to strongly engage players because it forces them to carefully consider their choices.

Since the game’s announcement, and release of the trailer last summer, Call of Cthulhu  has gained quite the supportive fan-base. One fan states, “Waiting for this game is like waiting for Cthulhu to die”. The game had elicited so much excitement, followers of  Call of Cthulhu were demanding as much detail as possible. The game has been confirmed to be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, Cyanide Studio still has not coughed up the release date. That has left fans insisting for more updates. A definite release date within 2018 has not been confirmed unfortunately.
