Bungie has unveiled Destiny 2: Renegades, the next major expansion in the long-running saga, arriving December 2, 2025. Drawing inspiration from the Star Wars galaxy, the expansion blends Destiny’s familiar blend of shooting and storytelling with a new cast of characters and mechanics built around the idea of playing outside the Vanguard’s rules. Guardians will join the Drifter and a crew of underdogs as they take on the Barant Imperium, a Cabal faction with suspected ties to the Nine, while navigating alliances that test both loyalty and power, according to a press release.
Renegades introduces a new mode called Lawless Frontier, a high-stakes system where players accept jobs that range from bounty hunting to smuggling and sabotage. These missions span three planets across six maps that take visual inspiration from iconic Star Wars locations. A new Notoriety system adds progression through Syndicate factions, while Guardians will unlock upgradeable Renegade abilities unique to this mode. The expansion also debuts a new weapon archetype, the Blaster, which draws power directly from ammo reserves and uses a heat management system that sets it apart from the rest of the arsenal.
Tharsis Outpost, a new social hub, serves as the center of the Renegades experience, while Invasion allows players to increase both risk and reward by opening their missions to attacks from other Guardians. The expansion is available for pre-order as part of the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition, which bundles both The Edge of Fate and Renegades campaigns, The Desert Perpetual raid, and a new dungeon alongside a suite of exclusive rewards including the Exotic sniper rifle New Land Beyond, the Enneachord Sparrow, and cosmetic bundles.
Alongside the reveal, Bungie also launched Ash & Iron, the first major update of the Year of Prophecy. Available to all players, it returns Guardians to the Plaguelands for Reclaim, a new three-player activity focused on chasing down Golden Age tech while battling Cabal and Vex in evolving encounters. The update refreshes the Rewards Pass, introduces a new Strand Exotic pulse rifle, and lays out a roadmap of upcoming content, including the Epic version of The Desert Perpetual raid, an Exotic mission set inside a Warmind bunker on October 7, and the return of Festival of the Lost on October 21. The new Call to Arms event will close the update, running from November 11 through December 1.
Destiny 2: Renegades launches December 2 and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Fate Saga, shaping a more lawless, player-driven frontier for Guardians to explore. An informational and showcase video has showcased the new collaboration.
