Earlier this week a Counter Strike player logged on and started a match with some random players and did his usual pre game announcement. This time it went a little different however, and ultimately led to the worst/ best day of his life.
Adam “Loop” Bahriz found himself playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive and sent out a pre written message to his team as he always does when playing with random people. The message reads, “Sup guys I got a lot of teeth removed due to a genetic disease so I can’t speak that properly, I can still call but be nice.”
The reason he sends out this message is due to him having a disease called Hereditary Sensory and Autonomic Neuropathy type II. Essentially he is Ajax from Deadpool minus being a villain. His disorder allows him to not feel much pain but has had some impacts on his life that resulted in partial blindness and deafness as well as having to have some teeth pulled. Due to this, and his speech being somewhat impaired, he sends out the message to let players know before he begins playing.
In the case this week, he began to speak during his Twitch live stream after sending out the message and was met with hostile teammates who took it upon themselves to say unnecessary and wrong things to him.
After winning the first round Adam wrote “Ok I won’t talk” and “Sorry”. After a few more rounds Adam was then voted on to be kicked from the game due to his lack of communicating. Due to the fact that Adam was doing a live stream, a few people were able to witness the event and promptly began to share the story on the ESEA website’s forum. As Mashable found, reddit user PDeeee captured a few clips and posted them onto the Counter Strike: Global Offensive subreddit.
By the afternoon, people had begun donating and subscribing to Adams Twitch channel. The donations are due to the fact that when he turns 18, Adam will be able to get the surgery he needs to fix his teeth and nose given he has the money for it. He even got a few shoutouts from some of the Professional Counter Strike players on Twitter with Twitch even featured him on their twitter as the clip of the day where he clutched a 1v5.
This goes to show how the gaming community shows its bad side, but ultimately ends up showing the good in people and a strong community of acceptance. In reddit post later on he said it turned out to be the “Best Day of My Life” after seeing the community get behind him and support him. Those involved in the bullying ultimately served a three day ban for their actions.
