PCGamesN reported that developer Build a Rocket Boy, developer of the upcoming games Everywhere and Mindseye is the latest in the video game industry to suffer layoffs. Following the initial report, the developer, founded by Leslie Benzies, a former Rockstar North President and long-time GTA Producer, confirmed the layoffs.
“While we have made great progress developing our products, we are now in a position where we need to make changes to the way we work across our business in order to become a more agile studio and to meet the requirements that our projects demand,” Build a Rocket Boy said in a statement. “To achieve that and refocus, we have taken the extremely difficult decision to propose the removal of a number of roles globally. This process is ongoing and we are working with those impacted at this difficult and challenging time.”
According to a source, the layoffs have affected the publishing department, QA, and Art teams.
This is coming following Build a Rocket Boy’s plans to open a studio in France, complementing its two other studios in Edinburgh and Budapest. PCGamesN’s source says that the layoffs have affected all three studios.
