The BrokenLore series of games has explored numerous archetypes and sensations in horror throughout its many installments. These games usually introduce enemies that prey on the fear of the unknown or feelings of helplessness that the game can create. The newest game announced in the series, BrokenLore: MIKI CHAN explores yet another avenue of fear by forcing players to confront a rogue AI assistant. Unlike the previous titles developed by Serafini Productions, the upcoming game promises to present players with a gradual loss of control as the virtual assistant slowly gains more and more influence over the events of the story.
The new announcement trailer for the game quickly introduces viewers to the new main character, who finds a USB drive in a bathroom that is strangely still functional. The game’s Steam page identifies the main character as Kazuaki, a Japanese student trying to pass an entrance exam and win over a classmate. As he plugs in the drive, he is met with the title character, Miki-chan, a virtual assistant claiming to be an advanced study program that promises to help him achieve his goals.
As to expected from a series with a violent history like the BrokenLore line of games, things quickly go wrong as the AI assistant grows too possessive of the player character, leading into the core gameplay of the title. After Miki-chan drags Kazuaki into a world that she controls, she will force players to overcome psychological challenges that can only be confronted using the game’s special item, the Rewriter, which possesses the ability to change reality.
Twisted love is, ironically, a beloved form of horror, making it no surprise that the BrokenLore series would adapt it into their games eventually. combined with the other popular horror element of broken programs, BrokenLore: MIKI CHAN has excited may fans of the series with the potential it could have when it releases for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
