Yesterday saw the unveiling of yet another new Overwatch League franchise. The Boston Uprising—managed by the Kraft Family, who famously own and operate the New England Patriots football dynasty—are the fifth to debut their name, colors, and custom game skins. Today even more information was released, as the team announced its full roster and coaching staff.
Team president Chis “Huk” Loranger emceed the announcement, which featured a montage of some of the players’ finest moments. While it’s not as star-studded of a roster as, say, the Dallas Fuel or San Francisco Shock, it’s still well-rounded and features a deep bench and plenty of coaching.
The DPS lineup features South Korean “Striker,” the sixth-ranked offensive player on the competitive ladder; “DreamKazper” from Tempo Storm; and notable Tracer main “Mistakes.” Former League of Legends competitor “Gamsu” will fill the role of dedicated main tank, supported by off-tanks “NotE,” formerly of Toronto Esports, and “Kalios” from RunAway, who can also flex to a support role. Rounding out the roster is “Kellex,” a dedicated support main from Denmark, and “Snow,” a relative newcomer not to be confused with the inactive Brazilian player of the same name.
The coaching staff features some well-established personas. Assistant coaches “Shake” and “Mini” should be familiar to longtime western Overwatch fans—”Shake” has played with Team SoloMid, compLexity Gaming, and Counter Logic Gaming throughout his career, while “Mini” has played with Tempo Storm and already served as a coach with Luminosity Gaming Evil. Tying the unit together is head coach Crusty, a Korean player who recently coached team RX Foxes to a fourth-place finish at APEX Season 4.
The Boston Uprising join the Dallas Fuel, Shanghai Dragons, San Francisco Shock, and Los Angeles Valiant as the teams who have fully revealed the details of their franchises. There are seven more to go before the Overwatch League preseason kicks off on December 6, with rumors indicating such names as the Los Angeles Gladiators, Seoul Dynasty, Miami Mayhem, New York Excelsior, and London Spitfire.
