Borderlands 3 is slated to release later this year. With anticipation growing as the time of the sequels launch draws near, there has been an interesting turn of events which reveal that a feature will be missing from the game when it launches in a couple months. It has been officially confirmed that Borderlands 3 will not feature cross-play support at launch.
This all came to light after the official Twitter account for Borderlands 3 released a teaser inviting fans to join them in a “celebration of togetherness” which will be fully revealed on July 16 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Many fans speculated that this announcement would be the reveal of cross-play being confirmed for the game. However, it turns out that that isn’t the case at this time.
Randy Pitchford CEO of Gearbox studios went to Twitter to officially confirm this development. “Some folks may be speculating that this thing tomorrow may be about cross-play. Tomorrow’s thing is awesome, but *not* about cross-play. But, Good News: We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch. #talklater” Pitchford also went on to add that cross-play will not be available for the game at launch but the company is currently discussing about bringing it to the game in the future.
“To be clear, there will not be any cross-play functionality in Borderlands 3 at launch as we work closely with our partners to create a positive cross-play experience as soon as practicable,” he said. “We are committed to cross-play on as many platforms as possible.”
The reveal may not be cross-play but fans won’t have long to wait for it whatever it may be. Borderlands 3 will release on September 13 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
