Bombshell Goes Gold for PC, Console Version Officially Announced

We’ve all heard the jokes–perhaps some of us even cracked a couple of them a few times online–jokes pertaining to 3D Realms and their upcoming game, Bombshell.

“Coming 2015,” they said, and everyone eye rolled as the release date was pushed back to January 2016. Well, time for us all to eat our words, as 3D Realms just announced a tangible release for Bombshell. The game has gone officially gold, coming out next week for the PC.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “going gold” essentially means that a developer has given their game the greenlight for shipment. In other words, they are ready to let us purchase and play what they’ve been slaving over. So, to be fair to 3D Realms, you can’t cast them a lot of side eye for delaying their game, because they simply wanted to give us the best version of their product.

The isometric action RPG is centered around Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, a former member of the Global Defense Force who lost an arm in a devastating event called “the Washington Incident.” Shelly becomes privately contracted, and is enticed with a shiny new mechanical arm. Created using the Unreal Engine 3 engine, the game looks promising in its action packed gameplay and top notch voice acting.

Bombshell has been given a PC release date for next week, January 29th, with an asking price of $35 USD, with the Digital Deluxe edition selling at $40–which includes map overviews, a digital artbook, the OST with 42 tracks, and early beta access to “Bombshell Build Engine retro prequel.”

Bombshell will also be given a launch for the Xbox One and Playstation 4, though a specific date remains unannounced, but 3D Realms is aiming for a timeframe of 2016. Fingers crossed.

Overall, Bombshell is shaping up to be an intriguing top-down shooter, and for the price, the Deluxe Edition is looking pretty tempting.

Starting January 29th, you’ll be able to buy the game for your PC for $35. Or if your cash is simply burning a hole in your pocket, you can upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition for the extra five bucks, at $40.
