Koji Igarashi’s long awaited next game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has hit yet another developmental bump. Igarashi announced via the December update on the game’s official Kickstarter page that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will no longer receive support for Mac and Linux versions of the game. In regards to what lead to the team canceling these two versions of the game, Igarashi stated that, “We have made this tough decision due to challenges of supporting middleware and online feature support and making sure we deliver on the rest of the scope for the game.”
Fans who had backed the Kickstarter campaign with the intention of playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Mac or Linux will now have the opportunity to contact the team via email to request a different version of the game for one of the remaining supported platforms. These aren’t the first versions of the game to be cancelled either. Earlier this year, Igarashi announced that the game was no longer getting PlayStation Vita version due to Sony no longer supporting the handheld console.
Igarashi did reassure fans that, aside from these new cancellations, “development has reached its peak” for the game. Igarashi would also commend the help WayForward has brought since joining in to help finish the game’s development last month. Igarashi stated that WayForward has already contributed to development in numerous ways “including creating incredible assets and lighting placements.”
Even with the near four years of development since the game’s Kickstarter campaign launched in 2015 and two years of delays, fans are still eagerly waiting for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Fans did get a taste of the Bloodstained universe with the release of the game’s prequel Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon earlier this year. The high critical reception this prequel garnered may bode well for the main game upon release even though its been marred with developmental hiccups along the way.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set to release at some point in 2019 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
