NetEase Games has unveiled Blood Message, its first AAA single-player action-adventure game, developed by Thunder Fire Entertainment. Announced via a reveal trailer, the game is coming to PC and consoles and marks a major shift for the company, which is traditionally known for its online and mobile-focused titles. Designed as a linear, narrative-driven experience, Blood Message places heavy emphasis on cinematic storytelling, visceral combat, and grounded historical context.
Set in the year 848 during the final years of China’s Tang Dynasty, the game follows a nameless messenger tasked with delivering a critical message that could determine the fate of his homeland. The story unfolds across the backdrop of Dunhuang’s Uprising, a real historical event, and spans a treacherous thousand-mile journey through deserts, mountains, and war-torn regions of East and Central Asia. The game’s setting draws directly from Chinese cultural heritage, incorporating the customs, attire, and political landscape of the late Tang era to frame a story rich in historical texture. Zhipeng Hu, the Lead Producer and NetEase Executive Vice President said the following :
As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.
Gameplay seems to be blending stealth, survival mechanics, and realistic melee combat to portray the dangers faced by the protagonist. According to NetEase, Blood Message is designed to be an emotionally resonant journey, exploring themes of family, honor, sacrifice, and cultural identity. With this title, the company signals its intent to expand into global premium markets through high-quality, story-driven content. Further details, including a release window and gameplay showcase, are expected in the coming months.
