BlizzCon 2023 is fully underway and the company has finally unveiled their brand new hero for Overwatch 2. Mauga, an absolute unite of a tank makes his way into the online multiplayer title, the 39th hero to do so. We were able to try out Mauga ourselves in person at the event, and we came away extremely impressed with his dominating attacks and overpowering presence.
As we already mentioned, Mauga is a tank, and therefore moves fairly slowly. However, he completely makes up for it with his two giant primary forms of attack, the Incendiary Machine Gun and the Volatile Machine Gun. You can fire with one, or both at enemies, but keep in mind that your ammo depletes much faster when using both guns at once. Both guns also have distinct unique traits, the Inciendiary gun slowly burns when attacking enemies, and the Volatile gun enables critical attacks.
Mauga’s passive ability is called Berserker, which grants him temporary health when dealing damage. This comes in clutch when using one of his main abilities, Overrun. This allows Mauga to run forward with berserker rage, ending with him jumping up and stomping on whoever is underneath him. His other ability, Cardiac Overdrive, lets him heal while also giving allies a temporary boost of healing as well.
Lastly, his Ultimate, Cage Fight. This might be one of the most overpowered Ultimate’s we’ve ever used and seen. Mauga traps down nearby opponents and literally chains them into a blue arena, preventing them from escaping. This allowed Mauga, and his allies, to potentially thrash an enemy team if they aren’t prepared for it, and will give Mauga’s team a huge advantage with positioning on the map.
After using him in just a coupe of matches, we can easily see Mauga becoming a huge fan favorite and one that a lot of Tank fans will be clamoring over during online matches. Mauga will be available on Overwatch 2 in Season 8 on December 5.
