In early 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced a major formatting change for the narrative structure of hero shooter Overwatch, previously known as Overwatch 2. Instead of centering more on Battle Passes and seasonal drops, the hero shooter RPG now does arcs that span the entire year, with six new seasons introduced per year.
On February 10, shortly after this announcement, the first season was dropped, mostly consisting of large updates to Overwatch’s structure. The three main roles- Tanks, Damage, and Support- further subdivided into more specific categories for each category. Tank roles are now broken into Bruisers, Initiators, and Stalwarts, and Damage roles into Sharpshooters, Flanker, Specialists, and Recon. Support roles include Tacticians, Medics, and Survivors.
Season 2 came out on April 14, introducing a new Damage hero named Sierra, the Spring Fairy Battle Pass, and an event called Operation: Grand Mesa. The Antarctic Peninsula map was updated, and exclusive tenth anniversary items landed in the shop.
The third season was announced with a trailer on June 15, and is titled “Into the Tiger’s Den.” It opens with Mizuki stating that “the dead are listening” before transitioning to a shot of Hanzo saying “I will seek my redemption head on,” before posing back to back with Genji. The final current character to be featured is Kiriko followed by the line “my task doesn’t end here.” A close up of the new Damage hero, Shion, is displayed on screen as she says “you die just like the rest.” An introductory montage of Shion is then shown, with standout lines such as “cry about it, “a punishment you can depend on,” “you knew this was coming”, and “I’ll take you for a ride!”
Similar to the Season 2 drop, this season also includes a new Hybrid Map called Neon Junction, a new Mythic Skin called Illari, and a new Mythic Weapon, also called Hanzo. New Battle Passes and Starter Bundles will be available to players, and the Summer Games have made a comeback. Additional updates to the Stadium Hero and Hero Ban are also included in this season.
Season specific launches include a music collaboration with Yoasobi, and a new Community Crafted mode. The third season, Into the Tiger’s Den, was released on June 15, and is a free update for both console and PC. The season trailer is available to view below on the official PlayStation YouTube channel.
