Blizzard Announces New Hearthstone Expansion: Whispers Of The Old Gods

Today, Blizzard Entertainment announced through a hefty press release regarding the new, highly anticipated Hearthstone expansion. Being called Whispers of the Old Gods, the cards are based off ye olde Warcraft lore from their flagship fantasy world, World of Warcraft, of which they made their fame.

Four Legendary Old Gods cards will arrive with Whispers of the Old Gods, and they’re horribly eager to lend their eldritch might to your collection. C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y’Shaarj, and N’Zoth all stand (sit? squirm? writhe?) ready to unleash indescribable power upon your opponents.

Developers previously had been hauling it into overtime producing new and excellent content to the online card playing game, and the new deck carries overt Lovecraft meets Warcraft themes. (Who knew the two would make such a pretty pair?) After all, C’Thun isn’t too far off from a familiar octopus/man deity whose name also starts with a C.

Players will be able to order their packs ahead of time starting March 14th. The Whispers of the Old Gods will come in a bundle of 50 cards and cost $50 USD, with the incentive of a bonus pre-order card. Old Gods cards will also be attainable in arena mode, so if you are teetering closer to the edge of “broke,” don’t go running to smash open that piggy bank quite yet.

The expansion will be available for Windows, iOS, Mac, and Android devices with a projected release date of “late April/early May,” according to Battle.net. The cards will also be in-play as of launch date–so stock up now so you don’t face the wrath of the Old Gods alone!!

During their press release, Blizzard enthusiastically stated, regarding the expansion:

Whispers of the Old Gods takes everything familiar in Hearthstone and turns it . . . inside out. Under the sway of the four Old Gods of Azeroth, familiar friends have been corrupted (and have sprouted a few extra eyeballs in the process), new monstrosities have appeared, and unrest spreads throughout the tavern with every turn. As the Old Gods and their crazed followers join you in battle, there’s no telling how much havoc you can wreak with their unique abilities and game-changing powers. By the same token, you’ll want to pay great attention to each play you make—for it could well be your last in the newest Hearthstone expansion.

Devs also encourage fans to chekc Battle.net regularly for updates and previews of new cards.

Be sure to tune back in on March 21st for another major announcement, as Blizzard is looking to unload more exciting news concerned the Whispers of the Old Gods!
