As the year nears its end, more and more games are set to release in the coming days and months, effectively bankrupting many gamers due to the sheer number of releases. But along with multiple releases come those who either need more time to polish their game to the best quality product or want the game to breathe, as the month is too stacked. And in the case of DrinkBox Studios, they need more time to polish their upcoming Metroidvania action RPG, Blighted. Blighted was originally set for release in fall 2026 but has been delayed to 2027. Blighted is officially set for 2027 for Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
Blighted is an upcoming Metroidvania action RPG by DrinkBox Studios that sees you battle through a psychedelic Western nightmare. The game was originally set to release in fall 2026, but as we get closer to the end of the year, little has been shared about an exact release date. However, in a Devlog published on September 21st by DrinkBox Studios, the game is being delayed to 2027 because the team needs more time to polish it. “The team has been working hard (and growing!), but we feel we still need a bit more time to polish and tune the game before launch. With this in mind, we’ve decided to shift our release to 2027.” Though the game is being delayed in the devlog, they also showcased new level designs and the overall look of Watchers Peak.
“We appreciate your patience, and while we will have more news in the new year, we have one more really cool dev update before 2026 wraps that we think you’ll keep an eye out for.”
Though Blighted is being delayed, it’s for a good reason: a polished, finished game is much better than a half-baked release. It’s nice to see the devs be completely transparent and respectful towards their community, striving for a well-polished game release, and showcasing the game to continue building hype. Blighted is officially set for 2027 for Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
