Incredibly popular Kpop group Blackpink is set to make their gaming debut with PUBG: Battlegrounds in an event coming later this season. This event will feature in game cosmetics for both players and the maps. There will also be special missions to complete to earn points. In the announcement, PUBG: Battlegrounds promises Blackpink themed wall decals, airplane tail, and supply crate and smoke for different maps. For cosmetics, there will be different items like hair, clothing, weapons, and nameplate decals that will fall into bundles based on the 4 different members of the group. Importantly, none of the faces of the artists will appear on anything, a warning that is repeated multiple times on the website.
This collaboration comes in time to celebrate Blackpink’s 5th birthday, and is not the only event the group has planned, as they have released news about a small number of projects regarding this anniversary. Also upcoming is an Animal Crossing: New Horizons partnership with its own cosmetics, and a Blackpink movie.
The dates for the PUBG: Battlegrounds events are a bit confusing, as they are different on console and PC. For console, the event will run from August 12 to September 15, and on PC it will run from August 8 to September 7. More details about this event and possible real life merchandise will be released closer to the launch dates. There are rumors on Twitter of a live stream possibly including this information or PUBG: Battlegrounds gameplay with Blackpink on August 13, but neither company has made an official statement regarding them.
