Magic Van Games is a new development studio that is working on BLACK WALLS, a psychological puzzle horror game about an isolated astronaut who was sent adrift into deep space after an accident outside his space station. This astronaut, named Joshua, discovers something impossible beyond the far side of the moon: black walls.

Players find themselves trapped within a monochrome maze, solving puzzles in hopes to help their wayward astronaut escape. One key features to the puzzles is the lighting of the environment as it will change what players are able to perceive. They will need to study the room closely, uncovering hidden paths to progress further through their uncanny journey.

BLACK WALLS is a game where the puzzle is built into the maze itself. The choices players make as they interact with objects they find will develop how their journey unfolds. Sound plays a key role in enhancing the player’s experience within the game, making some areas feel peaceful and others…unsettling.

The game contains a “Chill Mode” and “Horror Mode” for players to choose from. In the Chill Mode, players will be able to solve puzzles and explore the maze without the threat of being hunted down. It emphasizes the discovery and atmospheric side of the game whereas the Horror Mode is about the survival horror tension.

In the Horror Mode, players will be hunted down by an astronaut-looking monster. This astronaut can appear at any time and within various places of the maze. In this mode, players must stay alert of their surroundings while figuring out the solutions to the environmental puzzles.

On August 30th, the developers posted the game’s first official gameplay trailer that highlights in-progress game features. The trailer shows the hunter moving in the same mannerisms as a Weeping Angel. When players have the hunter within their sights, it stops moving, but once their eyes are off it begins to move again.

One of the spaces revealed in the trailer contains black balloons for players to jump on and the hulking figure of an astronaut looming over them. It is a game sure to keep players on their guard as they navigate the maze. BLACK WALLS is set to come out sometime in 2027 and those interested in the game and wishlist it now via Steam.
