With the Days of Summer event officially closed, it’s time for the next event in Black Ops 4, and this time it’s zombie-themed. Operation Apocalypse Z is out right now on the PS4 servers and set to release on Xbox One and PC in one week. The update brings a slew of new content, including new multiplayer maps for those with the Black Ops Pass, new characters (sort of), and of course, new Zombies content. You can check out the event trailer below.
The update introducing two brand new multiplayer maps, and a callback from the original Black Ops. The first new map, called Der Schatten, takes place in the snow-covered shadow of Zombies map Der Eisendrache from Black Ops III. The map features elements of the Zombies story arch, with Element 115 and Samantha’s teddy bear making cameo appearances. The next map is another Zombies homage, this time in the form of modern Zombies history museum called Remnant. Many callbacks to different Zombies maps over the years can be found in this map and is a great walk through time for all Zombies fans. Finally, the last map is Havana, a fan-favorite back in all its glory, which originally appeared in the original Black Ops. The new maps will only be available to those who have purchased the Black Ops Pass.
The event also adds a new specialist and playable Blackout character, though both have appeared in previous games. The “new” specialist, Reaper, is the killer robot from Black Ops III, and returns with its signature Scythe minigun for a specialist weapon. Reaper’s specialist ability, Radar Shroud, works much like the opposite of Recon’s Sensor Dart, jamming enemy minimaps for a small portion of the map where the device is placed. Once again, the many emotions of Danny Trejo grace the Call of Duty universe, as he returns as a playable Blackout character. He is unlockable through the Black Market.
And what good would a Zombie-themed event be without new Zombies content? A new Zombies experience, Alpha Omega, is a continuation of the Aether story and expands upon the Nuketown Zombies map, claiming to be “400% larger.” New weapons (Argus shotgun and Reaver C86 crossbow), a new Perk (Blood Wolf Bite) and classic Elixers (Phoenix Up and Head Drama) are also making an appearance in the Zombies rotation. For those players looking for a fresh Gauntlet experience, Duck and Cover will be released “later in this Operation.”
The Operation Apocalypse Z event is playable now on PS4 and is expected to release on Xbox One and PC in about seven days. You can check out the full update notes, which goes through all the added content, on the Treyarch blog.
