Marvel Rivals has seen continued success as a multiplayer competitive game in large part due to the constant improvements and added content produced by the team. While the cast started as a fairly diverse set of heroes adhering to roles that were easy for beginners to understand, later characters have branched out more and more with interesting and unique mechanics. The latest of these characters was revealed today to be Black Cat, who received her own character reveal trailer along with a Dev Vision video to explain some of her attributes.

Black Cat is shown to be a character with a lot of options in her reveal trailer. While her primary combat is focused on her claws up close, she is also shown to be able to dash as a way to close the distance as well as unleash a swipe that hits enemies far away. Her more unique traits come from a personal menu she can bring up, that allows her to spend a resource in order to obtain difference items for use in battle. With them, she is able to influence the battlefield by setting traps and portals that can phase both her and her allies through walls.

In the latest developer update discussing the new version, creative director Guangguang sheds some light about how the story of Marvel Rivals has led up to the latest update, and how Black Cat got involved with the other characters. He also goes into greater depth about her mechanics. Black Cat will have access to both wall climbing and double jumping for mobility. The items she uses during combat are nods to various Marvel characters and locations, often containing mystic power that the thief is happy to steal.

It is not uncommon for later characters in a game’s lifespan to have more complex mechanics than those that came before. In the case of Marvel Rivals, these new characters will ensure that everyone interested in the game will have someone who aligns with their personal playstyle. Black Cat and version 7.5 will release on April 17th.
