A lot of people have been excited for the remasters of Bioshock and Bioshock 2. However, after the release on PC some issues have been found. Users on Steam have begun to attack the issues and the lack of variety in setting choices. According to GameSpot, many users call this remastered version a “retextured,” version since the graphics have not been increased significantly. There are also some issues of crashes that occur as players attempt to Rapture, the main city in Bioshock, from the Bathysphere. Another major issue for most PC users is that the mouse sensitivity does not work too well, for example Steam user Cheesus said “If you lower the sensitivity to 1, the mouse cursor doesn’t [move] unless you fling your mouse”(via GameSpot). The mouse issue culd be a major issue since for first person games you constantly have to look around to see your environment but if you cannot easily do that then you loose a lot of the gameplay. Most players have resulted to using a controller, which is unfortunate as a keyboard and mouse usually yields better precision.
Bioshock is not the only one of the two new remastered editions to have negative comments, Bioshock 2 is also receiving a lot of criticism. But while the two have had a lot of backlash, there are some people who have been enjoying these remastered versions. There are also some users that think that the these new remastered ones are only hold a slight advantage over the original games in graphics. The only Bioshock game right now without issues is Bioshock Infinite as it has not received a remastered version.
While it is unfortunate that many of the bugs and issues from the original game have found their way into the remastered version, this is the best version available because of the small upgrade to the graphics. Hopefully 2K will release a patch soon to fix all these bugs in the PC version as most of the PC issues are big for the gameplay.
