In an announcement made on twitter this morning, “the studio formally known as Irrational Games” revealed that it will now be called “Ghost Story”, bringing a number of new changes to the company.
Irrational Games, the studio behind a number of successful titles including the highly popular Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, had been somewhat in the dark following a major “winding-down” of the company in February of 2014, reducing the large company to about 15 employees. This change was made by Irrational creative director Ken Levine, who expressed desires to begin a “smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor”.
Ghost Story Games, this new endeavor, has unveiled a shiny new website, shedding more light on the new company and its production team, comprised of Irrational Games’ alumni as well as some fresh faces.
Founded by twelve former Irrational Games developers, the company says they picked the name “Ghost Story” to remind themselves of their mission as games makers, citing that ghost stories are “immersive, exciting, and steeped in community”. Based in the Boston area, they aim to make games that focus on pitting a real challenge to their players, or as they put it, “games for people who love games that ask something of them”.
Ghost Story is currently working on their maiden project, which they believe will have “strong appeal to fans of BioShock”. No details on the new game have been released as it is still in early stages of production, but Ghost Story has stated that it will be an “immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements”. It is confirmed that this new game will NOT be a Bioshock game.
