BIONICLE was always the toy series that kids in recent memory would grab ahold of an feel adventure once they passed on from LEGO or even simple action figures. The franchise only grew because of the unique building aspects with simplified instructions and elemental themes. Bionicle expanded into television shows, movies, and even video games. One of these games was supposed to be titled BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui. Unfortunately, the game was never released in the Fall of 2001 as planned. But old and new fans can now rejoice as Litestone Studios has announced BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui REBUILT. Check out the trailer:
Litestone did clarify a few things about REBUILT so that gamers would not confuse the intention of the revisit into the world of BIONICLE. Firstly, this game will not be a complete “reboot of BIONICLE G1, a continuation, or any official media. In fact, this shouldn’t even be considered a new game. REBUILT sets out to continue and expand the originally cancelled Legend of Mata Nui project that was initially being developed by Saffire in the early 2000’s. Another important clarification from Litestone is on the appearance of the game, “the game looks old because it IS old.” While some modern effects have sharpened the look of the original game, REBUILT will definitely have a somewhat dated look as shown by the trailer.
Finally, after about 18 years fans of the franchise will be able to play as the Toa warriors in their quest to take down Makuta. The final chapter of the 20 year story will be concluded this August. The original game was supposed to allow for 6 playable characters with 8 areas to explore so it will be interesting to see how these aspects of the game have expanded as well.
BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui REBUILT is on its way August 10, which is also being called 810NICLE Day. The trailer does not reveal what platforms it will launch on, however, the original game was slated to release for PC and the Nintendo GameCube so perhaps REBUILT will be coming to PC and the Nintendo Switch.
