Some really sinister stuff is going on over at Nicalis. Only ten days remain until Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is available to buy on Steam starting October 30th. Currently, the pre-order copies are set at the ominous price of $6.66. With it Nicalis promises plethora of new goodies. Afterbirth drops out of the womb with a staggering 100 new hours of gameplay, an alternative soundtrack featuring 9 freshly scored songs, four amended chapters, and an all new playable character: Lilith, mother of demons, who sounds charming. Developers have boasted never before seen areas and bosses, further claiming players will subject poor Isaac to 1,000 new rooms filled with over 120 new items.
The biggest hype surrounding the game is Greed Mode, a different way to torture poor Isaac for the players gain. This ability allows Isaac to enter survival mode, sacrificing half a heart of health in order to prevent further waves of enemies from swarming as he attempts to sob his way to freedom (tears being his primary and tragic defense). It presents an effective opportunity for players to hoard items and coins, as well as prevent them from feeling overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, the freshest development to come out of BindingofIsaac.com is the Night light, a defensive item designed to bring enemies to a crawl, leaving them in a predictable state for the player to dispose of. Nicalis revealed the Night light via a humorous anecdote of a child’s hesitancy of sleeping in the dark, and how many combat the unknown lurking within the darkness with the banishing light of a simple night light–further perpetuating the running theme of child-like inadequacy in the face of our greater fears.
Other exciting updates players have to look forward to are new daily runs, including leaderboards blank and ready for new speed run scores—be sure to lord these over your friends–and finally, as their website so loudly and proudly proclaims, “even more rooms FULL OF POOP!”
Be sure to pre-order BoI: Afterbirth on Steam before its release on October 30th in order to receive the deviously discounted price of $6.66, because after the game is out the developers caution that the price will inflate to the less evil $9.99. Both the Rebirth original soundtrack and Afterbirth OST are on sale for buy one, get one free. Nicalis appears to be in a generous mood, dolling out so many deals—make sure to get them while the gettin’ is good!
