Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth for PS4 and Xbox One

Edmund McMillen and Tyrone Rodriguez are wasting no time with their expansion for popular dungeon exploring game, Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. Currently slated to be released under the name Afterbirth+ the game will be a paid DLC and require a previous purchase of Rebirth and Afterbirth. Rodriguez explains further via their website that the reason Afterbirth+ is not free to play is because “it’s another expansion, just like Afterbirth.”

This new expansion will be made available on PC for Windows, OSX and Linux–with a hint of a possible PS4 and Xbox One launch sometimes between Q1 and Q2, as well! However, mods will only be offered for the Windows version. The expansion has a loose release date of “2016” and when asked for an estimated price, McMillen commented, “just enough to upset a vocal minority and buy myself a 3rd yacht!”

Also promised in the DLC are new transformations, new bosses, (obviously!) new items, and what’s being called a “bestiary.” This new feature works a lot like a Pokedex in the dark world of battling nightmares and monsters. This will allow players to identify the enemies they come across and keep track of not only how many of them players have offed, but also how many times players have perished at the hands of that particular foe. Definitely a handy tool!

Rodriguez went on to cast a ray of sunshine down upon Isaac fans with further good news: a PS4 and Xbox One release for BOI: Afterbirth.

We should be done with porting both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version by the end of next month. Release would be shortly after that.

With the spike in popularity over recent years, the roguelike game has responded well towards internet fame–remaining fan friendly and working fast to provide a slew of new bosses and items for fans to challenge themselves with. It is great to watch these game makers continue to evolve with their fandom!
