Beyond Good & Evil 2 creator Michel Ancel says that the game is currently under “very serious development for Ubisoft.” In an interview with Kotaku, Ancel says that he and his team have been working on a sequel since the end of Rayman Legends. He did say that it would be a long time before the release of Beyond Good & Evil 2, because the game needs to be “more concrete” before a full reveal will be made.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was originally announced all the way back in 2008. It was, for the most part, forgotten about until September 2016 when Ancel began to start teasing the game via Instagram pictures. He kept on teasing the game before he gave an official announcement saying that the teases were real.
“That was not a gimmick but a way to say ‘Look. The game exists and we can do it,” Ancel said.
Ancel blamed technological limitations when asked about why the game took so long to start.
“[We had] big questions that are so big that you can’t know the answers because no physics engine can handle all of the dimensions and speeds and things like that,” Ancel said. “It’s like ‘Okay, if no physics engine can do it, how can we achieve that.’ It’s crazy and difficult to explain the people how technical making a game is. Now, it’s not anymore about polygons and things like that. It’s about millions of behavioral AIs, systems and giant spaceships crashing on big planets.”
Ancel is also leading development for Wild. Wild is an open-world survival game where you can possess eagles and ride bears, similar to the game play of Far Cry Primal.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on a date that has yet to be revealed.
