Bethesda Working on Maps and “New Way of Traveling” For Starfield

It looks like we could be in for some brand new features for Starfield in the foreseeable future. According to post made on the official Starfield Reddit page by Bethesda themselves, the studio is currently working on some quality of life updates for the title. Some of these noteworthy fixes include “in-progress quest fixes,” as well as official mod support, and city maps. However, the most intriguing aspect to these new updates is that they’re also working on “new ways of travelling.”

According to Bethesda, these new features and updates are slated to arrive early next year starting with a cycle of every six weeks. However, they also motioned that they are taking many precautions before they feel ready to unleash these updates into the game. “Safe is the key here. We do take a lot of time to test even the smallest change in a game this large and dynamic.” The mod support here is no real surprise, as this is essentially Bethesda’s bread and butter. In fact, one might argue that mods are what keeps most Bethesda titles going for so many years, The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim being a prime example of this.

As for the other two major new features, maps is a massive upgrade that many fans have been asking for. The current “map” in Starfield is merely a blank screen with some spots of interest for the player to locate. This would make more sense with a space map, but in terms of searching through a complex location on a planet, this can become a cumbersome task very quickly. As for the “new ways of traveling,” that could mean any number of changes to how players travel. One of the biggest complaints from players was that some of them wished that they could actually fly their ship onto a planet and land on it themselves. Instead, the current system is merely a fast travel mechanic, where the player is instantly moved from planet to planet. Either way, Bethesda will give us some more information as we get closer to 2024.
