BBC Click Interviews Watch Dogs Legion Director in Game

BBC Click’s Marc Cieslak had the rare opportunity to interview Watch Dogs Legion’s creative director Clint Hocking in a very unique way. Using motion capture and photo capture for Marc Cieslak, and Clint Hocking creating in-game characters, the interview was rendered and broadcasted from inside the game itself. Marc Cieslak started with asking if including a setting revolving around the post-Brexit United Kingdom would land Ubisoft or Watch Dogs Legion any backlash. Hocking replayed that he viewed himself and the game has a “creator of culture.”

It’s our responsibility to look at the things that are happening in the world around us and have something to say about that.

Clint Hocking continued with, “To create something that’s meaningful, that people can look at and engage with and it speaks to the world that they live in.” Clint Hocking remarked that he and the others at Ubisoft are considering other real-world events to be included in the game. He considered autonomous vehicles and featuring a more aggressive surveillance state.

The interview did not reveal any unknown details about Watch Dogs Legion. The game is the third entry in the Watch Dogs series and is set in London after a dystopian regime takes charge after Brexit. Players are tasked with finding and recruiting locals to join the resistance to overthrow the ruling body. Players are promised that they will be able to play as anyone they can recruit as well, creating more freedom from the previous games. Both of which followed a single protagonist. Watch Dogs Legion does not have a solid release state after being delayed. The game is expected to come out somewhere near the end of 2020 to the first financial quarter for 2021. Watch Dogs Legion is expected to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
