Battletoads Release Date Revealed; Coming Out August 20

Today, Microsoft, Rare, and Dlala Studios have announced that after 26 years, Battletoads is set to release on Xbox One and PC on August 20. The revival was first revealed during E3 2018 with gameplay shown off during Microsoft’s press conference last year. Battletoads is available to purchase on Xbox One and PC but it is also available on Xbox Game Pass the same day.

Like the previous games in the series, Battletoads stars Zitz, Rash, and Pimple as “three brawling bruisers from outer space who can morph parts of their bodies to dish out extra destruction.” The three are going up against the Dark Queen and her allies across a variety of beat ’em up, platforming and racing stages.

The Battletoads series is known for its tenacity and requirement of split-second reflexes to beat so Dlala Studios’ approach to the new game “focuses on maintaining this mayhem while ensuring you have enough options to play at your own pace.” This includes up to three-player couch co-op that your friends can drop in and out of at will and difficulty settings to suit everyone from Tadpole to Battletoad. The game will include new vehicle sections and puzzle-solving sequences.

The game’s distinctive hand-animated art style was chosen to pay homage to the series’ irreverent sense of humor to the stylish, self-aware cartoons of the late ’90s. The game’s story will also play out in several fully animated sequences that feature professional voice talent.

More will be revealed between now and August 20 including new gameplay deep dives, first glimpses at new collectible merchandise, and exclusive giveaways. There will also be a behind the scenes look at the creative process that brought this new version of Battletoads to life. Xbox Game Pass pre-installation will be available soon for players to get ready for when the game releases on August 20.
