Battlefield 6 players have been waiting for the game’s second major content season, but it’s now been officially pushed back by nearly a month. Instead of starting in late January as many expected, Season 2 is now scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026. This delay was announced today by Electronic Arts and the Battlefield development teams, who said they needed extra time to polish and improve the next season based on player feedback.

Originally, Season 2 was expected to follow right after Season 1, which began shortly after the game’s October launch and ran through much of the winter. Many fans assumed the next season would arrive in late January, continuing the typical roughly three-month seasonal cycle. But EA chose to extend Season 1 past its planned end date of January 20 and give the development team more time to refine Season 2 content before release.
With the recent declining active player count on Steam, this news could seem very concerning at a first glance. However, the decision to push back this release of the new season could be crucial for the developers to get fans interested back into the Battlefield experience. According to the EA, they have “continued to review community feedback and, in order to keep our promise, determined that our best path forward is to extend Season 1 and give ourselves extra time to further polish and refine Season 2.”
To keep players engaged during the longer wait, EA is adding a “Frostfire Bonus Path” to the extended Season 1. This extra track will offer new weekly challenges and rewards, including cosmetics and XP bonuses, so players still have something fresh to work toward before Season 2 officially launches.
The decision to delay Season 2 has generated mixed reactions in the community. According to the the Battlefield 6 subreddit some players are frustrated by the longer gap between seasons, primarily from the lack of information given of what is to come for next season. Others appreciate that the developers are taking time to address player feedback and improve the quality of new content rather than rushing it out.

EA and Battlefield Studios said the extra development time is meant to help deliver a better, more polished experience when Season 2 arrives. As of now, the team has committed to the new date. This shows that they are dedicated to attracting players back to the game and they just need some more time to do so.
