To say that Battlefield 2042 has had a bad launch thus far would be an understatement. What was expected to be one of 2021’s greatest triumphs unfortunately turned into mess for D.I.C.E. and EA. The game launched with numerous bugs and glitches, but more importantly, it also lacked several gameplay features that were trademarks of the franchise. Recognizing their situation, D.I.C.E. revealed in a blog post that some of the upcoming updates and content for the title would bring back some of those features. However, they also revealed that due to the extra work needed to implement all of this, the first season of content will not launch until Summer 2022.
As you can see in the tweet above, D.I.C.E. is preparing to bring in three major features to Battlefield 2042, all of which have been long requested by the fans since the game came out. The first, and perhaps most importantly, is the scoreboard which shows all of the statistical data from a match including the kill/death ratio and overall score for each team and player. The second is voice communication, which is yet another major aspect for any online multiplayer title, while the third is overhauling the player profile. The latter showcases all of the players’ accomplishments and progress towards leveling up and completing challenges.
Battlefield 2042 was the first entry to be an online multiplayer only, completely removing the storyline campaign that has accompanied the series until this point. It launched on November 19 with four seasons promised along with a battle pass for further experience and content. The initial season with the new content was originally thought to have been ready to go by March 2022. However, it looks like the additional workload will require more time for the studio to roll out all of these features. While it’s clear that both D.I.C.E. and EA still have hope that they can still turn things around with Battlefield 2042, only time will tell if that actually comes to pass.
